Live Curly, Live Free
First of all, it was a fantastic present..then again, all of closure them are. I was capable illusion part quick weave of take lots of courses given by some fabulous industry leaders. It is fairly intense, but it is a superb instructional useful resource for magnificence trade professionals and I’m always pleased with the quality of schooling given.
One of the highlights of my weekend was meeting Michelle and Gretchen from naturallycurly.com..two wonderful ladies with some rocking curls. They were there to formally launch CurlStylist.com and gave the impression to be making some good connections every time I passed their sales space. I tried to say goodbye at the moment, but they had been busy and that i did not want to interrupt them..I hope to see them at Premiere again next yr.
I’m blissful to say it seems a few of my initial fears about the site were unfounded; perhaps, given all the overall business “killing” of curls and my sensitivity to that, I saw ghosts the place there actually weren’t any to be found. Sure, there is focus on the positioning on retexturizing, and so on. for curls, however let’s face details..we aren’t going to change things overnight. Michelle told me they are desperate to have a place where more stylists can go to learn the true deal about curly hair and start effecting that change, and I’ve pledged my dedication to assist them make that happen (and Michelle, if you are reading this, I have not forgotten my promise to you to submit a Stylist Spotlight kind 🙂 )
Sadly, there was one unpleasant incident, one which took me utterly by shock. I took Deva’s class on Saturday morning, which was taught by Denis and Lorraine, simply to see what was new at Deva. I stopped by their sales space briefly to buy some products, but that was the extent of my contact with them..I used to be just too busy with other courses and assembly with other vendors/manufacturers to cling around lengthy in anybody place and i did not communicate to anyone there.
It is not a secret that I took the Deva class in 2007, however have sort of advanced into my very own style since then and have began teaching curly hair schooling that differs a bit from what others, including Deva, educate and consider. And that’s cool..never have I ever been less than optimistic or respectful about anybody else or began uncomplimentary rumors, etc. (and if anybody can discover anything I’ve written that contradicts this, be at liberty to deliver it out into the open). I believe that so long as we’re all devoting our consideration to creating lovely curls, it would not matter if we agree 100% on the tactic or merchandise we use to get there. There is no reason we won’t peacefully coexist.
Think about my complete shock, then, after i saw Lorraine Massey completely trashing me on Twitter this morning in several tweets..saying I mentioned issues that were “knot true” about her. It was so unbelievably ugly. At the top, she all however dared me to return to the Deva sales space for a confrontation. To say I was utterly stunned is an understatement. I have by no means stated something disrespectful or untruthful about Lorraine, ever..as a matter of truth, I seek advice from her as “the woman who began it all” to my clients and my other curly cohorts. If it wasn’t for Curly Lady, there are literally thousands of ladies—ME included—that will nonetheless be making an attempt to determine what’s finest for our curls.
I want I may tell you what precipitated this, but I am so mystified and in the dark myself, I could not even start to speculate. I did Tweet her back to tell her I wasn’t clear about what she meant, that I’ve by no means been destructive about Deva and that I hope subsequent time we are able to speak in regards to the facts first..however she does not comply with me anymore and I am positive she will not see it. And I suppose I want she would have been skilled enough to strategy me privately if she heard or read one thing that upset her, and that we could have cleared the air between ourselves without such a nasty and uncalled-for public show.
C’est la vie, I suppose..nevertheless it was an upsetting finish to such an exquisite show 🙁 It’s my hope we are able to resolve this sometime so we will as soon as again remember we are all a staff devoted to helping women to love and embrace their curly hair.
So, other than that, it was an amazing weekend, although I’m really exhausted and I am glad this only occurs once a yr, lol..in fact, staying out late last night time didn’t help the exhaustion any either 😉 I had some nice conversations with a lot of people which have pretty much determined my plans for the following 12 months, together with the direction I would like illusion part quick weave to take LCLF. I think I can definitely count on some exciting instances in the subsequent 12 months.
